Tiger Teacher Corps pairs early classroom experiences with mentorship and financial support. In addition, a $1.3 million TRIO grant expands advising, tutoring, and PRAXIS preparation for first-generation and Pell-eligible future educators.

Ameyah Johnson and Mia Scherer

Two Education students were recognized by the Louisiana Board of Regents during the sixth annual Future Educator Honor Roll ceremony at the historic Old State Capitol. Ameyah Johnson, a Master of Arts in Teaching–Elementary student, and Mia Scherer, a General and Special Education Grades 1–5 student, were selected for their excellence during their residency experiences and their commitment to Louisiana’s future students.

Funded by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), School of Education faculty member, Margaret-Mary Sulentic Dowell, is Co-PI on the two-year NOAA BWET funded project designed for Louisiana in-service educators to explore the Mississippi River watershed and learn about Louisiana’s local environmental phenomena. Participating teachers will bring valuable hands-on learning experiences back to their classrooms across South Louisiana.
