Maurice Carlos Ruffin was encouraged by educators in his life to pursue his dreams, support that ultimately led to writing success and his national bestseller, “The American Daughters.” Now he strives to do the same for his creative writing students at LSU.

Six LSU faculty members have been selected as Rainmakers by the LSU Council on Research based on their outstanding scholarship and creative activity within their respective ranks and disciplines.

The number 50 doesn’t impress Dr. Leonard Richardson. The fact that the Herbert Huey McElveen Professor of Mathematics has been teaching and inspiring students at LSU for five decades is hardly noteworthy in his opinion.
